Hi guys!! Here I am for another of my tales, are you ready?
Today we will talk about Asp which is a fish very challenging and funny at the same time! It's vulnerable to different types of approaches from spoons to topwater fishing!
The best time to have fun is when the spawning season ends in May and the water starts to warm up, that's the right moment we can find this fish in activity and ready to recover the energies spent. As always to get the most out of your fishing tackle, the recommended moments of the day are when the light changes. However, if you are meant to be fishing topwater in the hottest days of the summer it won’t be difficult to find them near the water surface ready for spectacular attacks even in the central hours of the day.
We talk about the immediate post spawning season when the Asp usually is hunting very close to the river bank; casting along the shore can lead to good results especially if you manage to not be seen when the water is clear.Mostly the inhabited areas, in fact, have crystal clear waters and make the wrong move it’s very easy to scare the fishes.
The best way to catch them is using a minnow (7/9 cm) but lately I have had great results using the Puncher from Sèbile.A minnow with a well-finished livery, with a tight and nervous swimming to stimulate the attack of these predators. It works fine on linear recovery with active fish, but I mainly use it with a constant "jerk-jerk-stop" rhythm in order to simulate the swimming of a fish that is being hunted by a predator.
The Asp is also called by anglers “the silver arrow” because of the speed of its attacks, so you’ll be required to use a combo that is ready for a great fight.
My choice fell on the Villain 10/30 GR 1pcs 6'3". Very short so very easy to handle and reactive. The reel that goes along with it is the Revo Inshore 30 a light and robust piece of kit.
I am a lover of nanofil but when I’m out fishing in areas where the bottom has a lot of debris and structures I usually prefer to use a fluorobraid spiderwhire 0.12 (+0.30 as tippet) which provides greater resistance.
